As today our police forces are under immense pressure to maintain law and order on the streets, the number of security guard companies in operation has increased to fill the gap. All security guards require adequate training to acquire a license and will need to fulfill additional on the job learning requirements. All members of a security personnel team need to be in peak physical condition. They may be called upon to chase down offenders and make arrests. For this reason, it is usually a prerequisite for an applicant to successfully complete a physical training program as well as gaining theoretical knowledge.

Every private security guard would need to have excellent reading, writing, and language skills. Effective communication can help to prevent misunderstandings and allow for instructions to be understood in full.

Knowledge of a company’s management and administration principles alongside public security and safety policies would also need to be understood. The majority of private security companies prefer to hire individuals that have a background in law enforcement or working in the armed forces, as these people are more likely to already have certain desirable skills to become a good armed security guard.

There is the possibility of a lifelong and rewarding career for qualified security guards. The potential exists to achieve promotions up to management level which would command a greater salary and benefits package.
